Cuckmere Community Solar has become a founder member of the Community Energy Association (England), or CEE. This is a new membership body founded to represent the community energy sector. It is led by enterprises which undertake community energy projects in England and has a broad membership which also includes public and private sector bodies active in community energy.

The Government wants much greater community involvement in energy generation as it outlined in its Community Energy Strategy published in January 2014. The CEE has been set up to become the voice of the community energy sector and will engage directly with government on a national policy issues.

One of the more innovative aspects of the government’s strategy is that renewable energy developers should make a share of renewable energy projects available for community ownership, and part of the remit of this new association will be to facilitate the partnerships needed to make this happen.
